Keratosis pilaris (KP, also follicular keratosis) is a very common genetic follicular condition that is manifested by the appearance of rough bumps on the skin, hence referred to as chicken skin. It most often appears on the back and outer sides of the upper arms (though the lower arms can also be affected), on the upper arm the skin starts becoming irritating; scratching this rash can make it spread and can also occur on the thighs and tops of legs, flanks, buttocks, or any body part except glabrous skin (like the palms or soles of feet).[1] Less commonly, lesions appear on the face, which may be mistaken for acne.
Natural medicine would recommend taking natural anti-inflammatory and skin building products internally. These would consist of some or all of the following:
White pine bark or grape seed extract for inflammation
MSM as an anti-oxidant and a natural skin and plyable tissue builder
GLA and omega that helps the body support healthy skin, hair, and nails
There are also some natural products for internal use that can increase healthy skin growth. I would recommend trying the above first for 60 to 90 days before using other blends.
Externally I would recommend using a natural product cleanser and moisturizers containing alpha hydroxy acids. Doing a derm peel or exfoliating cleansers will help take off the outer layer of the skin that is affected. Moisturizing with emu oil will help with any inflammation of the skin.
