It seems like a good time of year to talk about immune boosting here in cold Wisconsin. There has been some bad press on herbs in the mainstream news on television lately so I wanted to take an opportunity to remind everyone that herbs are older than humans, and only 2 generations ago, they were all we had!
Elderberry is often called Sambucus. Elderberry grows wild in my horse pasture here in Wisconsin. It is a bush berry that is very dark purple, nearly looking black when ripe. Elderberry is one of the most effective herbs for preventing and treating upper respiratory infections, constipation, and fever. Elderberry stimulates the immune system and helps to fight viruses. Elderberry contains vitamin B-17 (nitriloside, amygdaline) which is also known as laetrile, which is used in cancer therapies.
There are many forms of elderberry on the market. At B Natural we carry it in syrup, and lozenges as well as in blends in tincture and capsule forms.
Elderberry taken daily throughout the winter is a good way to help boost your immune response.
